What we do, in plain language
Mercer & Hartwell automates trading strategies. If you have a rules-based approach to the markets — whether you trade FX, equity indices, commodities, or crypto CFDs — and you want it to execute without you sitting at a screen, we are the team that builds and deploys the software to make that happen. We are not a hedge fund, not a signal service, and not a broker. We are a four-person software engineering consultancy based in Oradea, Romania, and we work exclusively in the algorithmic trading infrastructure space. Our clients are independent retail traders, proprietary trading desks, and small fund managers located primarily across Romania, Hungary, and Germany — traders who have a tested edge and want reliable automation, not generic off-the-shelf tools. Since founding in 2019, we have completed over 140 live bot deployments. The strategies we've automated range from simple moving-average crossover systems to multi-leg options strategies and intraday statistical-arbitrage setups. Every single deployment has included a documented backtest, hard-coded risk controls, and at least 30 days of monitored post-launch operation.
How we work — and where we set limits
Our process starts with a structured scoping call, usually 30 to 45 minutes. We ask detailed questions about your strategy's logic, your broker, your risk tolerance, and your timeline. From that conversation, we produce a fixed-scope proposal — a defined list of deliverables at a fixed price, with no hourly billing and no scope creep. Strategy automation projects typically run three to five weeks from signed proposal to live deployment. Backtesting-only engagements are usually completed within two weeks. We do not begin development until the scope document is agreed and a 50% deposit is received. Every client retains full ownership of their source code, their VPS, and their broker credentials — nothing is locked to Mercer & Hartwell's infrastructure. There are real limits to what automated systems can do. We cannot guarantee that a historically profitable strategy will continue to perform in future market conditions. We do not provide strategy ideas or investment advice. If a strategy's edge degrades over time — which happens — that requires a human decision to adjust or retire the bot. We flag the warning signs in the monitoring dashboard, but the decision to act belongs to you.
